Dr Paul Pepe has pioneered vanguard patient care advances in resuscitation and EMS for >4 decades, bringing scientific research to EMS, first as a "street doctor” for Seattle Fire (1970s) and then Houston’s inaugural EMS Physician Director (1980s/early 90s), The first fulltime EMS medical director (Houston/1982), he forged the EMS-subspecialty while dramatically-increasing cardiac-arrest and critical-trauma survival (using numerous landmark scientific investigations). Pennsylvania’s Emergency Medical Director (late1990s), he later became Dallas County (TX) Public Safety Medical Director (2000-present) and Professor/Chair of Emergency Medicine at UT Southwestern and Parkland Emergency-Trauma Center (2000-2014). A principal co-founder of NAEMSP, he became its first President-Elect (1984) and later created the “Eagles” alliance (1998) while co-organizing the NIH-ROC. Still receiving numerous scientific-achievement awards annually, he was also named 2020 NAEMT EMS Medical Director of the Year.
