Community Risk Reduction Captain
Philadelphia Fire Department
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Cpt. Tabitha Boyle, EMT-P, BSN, serves as the director of CRR (Community Risk Reduction) for the Philadelphia Fire Department. This unit seeks to understand and mitigate root causes of injury and illness within the Philadelphia community, in an effort to alleviate increasing demand for emergency medical services. CRR programs include public outreach, education, case management support, and innovative partnerships with community stakeholders, such as AR2 (Alternative Response-Unit 2), a low-barrier treatment pathway for clients with opioid use disorder. The collaboration between public health, behavioral health, and EMS that makes AR2 possible is a promising model for mobile integrated healthcare in any large urban setting.
