Description: Can’t Shock ‘Em? Block Em! Esmolol’s Role in Achieving ROSC is a talk that discusses the use of beta-blockade during the resuscitation of a victim in refractory ventricular fibrillation. Despite the use of standard therapies, there is a subset of patients who may persist in this lethal rhythm, calling on the provider to use a non-traditional treatment in order to save this patient's life.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to define the differences between refractory and recurrent ventricular fibrillation as viewed through a case study.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the benefitted use of beta blockade therapy in patients with refractory ventricular fibrillation.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to list various concerns with intravenous epinephrine when administered to patients in cardiac arrest, specifically those in refractory ventricular fibrillation.
