Description: Mortality: Dealing with Death & Dying (4-hour interactive course)
As we enter the workforce, we are faced with the reality that even when we do everything, some people will die. Even when best practices are followed the outcome can be death. What about the family on the scene? Are we trained to deal with this? Do we know what to say? Do we know what to do? This interactive course is filled with discussion and activities that focus on the following:

Learning Objectives:

express knowledge of death ● inevitable mortality ● natural /can occur at any stage of life ● can occur with no warning or from chronic illness
express knowledge/view on death ● death is not necessarily evil or negative it is part of a natural process
verbalize understanding of the stages of death and dying and grief and how they are managed in the prehospital setting
verbalize understanding of the relationship between culture, ethics, rituals, and customs related to death and bereavement. verbalize understanding of DNR and POLST as they relate to patients across the lifespan.
Demonstrate effective communication when working with patients & families related to death & dying. Verbalize how and where to find help if needed when death affects them
