Thomas Basala is in his last semester at Michigan Technological University studying Human Biology and Public Health. He will be graduating with a B.S. in April of 2022.
Thomas's current research focuses on the role of meditation as non-medicinal sleep aid. In the past, his work has investigated how metrics of psychological well-being and arterial stiffness may influence nocturnal blood pressure dipping patterns. Thomas also has an interest in clinical research and has worked on a project evaluating patient outcomes between different mitral valve repair surgery techniques.
After graduating from Michigan Tech in April, Thomas will be applying to medical school and working as a clinical researcher at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation during his gap year. He hopes research will always be a significant part of his career within healthcare.
