o Responsible for handling and injecting rodents used in small animal survival surgeries, to fulfill study aims relating to diabetes, preeclampsia, hypertension, cardiopulmonary function, innate immunity, and the complement system. Mastery of the Reduced Uterine Perfusion Pressure (RUPP) model requiring the fabrication of custom medical devices, anesthetization, aortic isolation, and carotid artery cannulation, culminating in necropsy. Conforming to protocols and procedures in accordance with IACUC and AAALAC guidelines.
o Molecular biology techniques: RNA extraction from harvested animal tissues and cultured eukaryotic cells, cDNA synthesis, qRT-PCR.
o Biochemical and immunological techniques: ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, tissue processing and paraffin embedding.
o Designing, assembling, and performing complex laboratory procedures and experimental protocols independently and collaboratively; protocol optimizing and modifying as appropriate; collecting, entering, and analyzing data; statistical analysis.
o Directing graduate and undergraduate students; excellence in interpersonal and organizational skills with commitment to teamwork; ordering and maintaining lab equipment and supplies.
