Lema Abuoqab a second-year undergraduate student at Tufts University double majoring in biology and biotechnology on the premedical track. She is currently an undergraduate research assistant at Tufts Medical Center at the Mother Infant Research Institute in the O'Tierney-Ginn Laboratory, where she studies placenta science and the effects of maternal obesity on infant health. In addition to her premedical pursuits, Lema is a published children’s book author and has worked on providing educational resources to teach children about their health. Her first book, Eric’s Brain Elementary, teaches children about the brain's complex functions and promotes awareness of their bodies; it is available on Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Bookshop. Lema has over four years of shadowing experience in pediatric general surgery and pediatric orthopedic surgery. She is also an active volunteer at Tufts Children's Hospital. Lema hopes to work in pediatric orthopedics after completing medical school. Until then, she plans on continuing her research at Tufts and further expanding on her children’s book series.
