Born and raised in Venezuela, Eugenia received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in December 2017. During her undergraduate experience she participated in research projects involving the development of catalysts to produce hydrogen gas for use as an alternative energy source. This exposure to science led her to apply and become a graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Medical College of Wisconsin in August 2018. For the past 3 years, she has been working in the Biochemistry Department under the supervision of Dr. Stephanie Olivier-Van Stichelen. In her research project she is studying the importance of the nutrient-responsive protein modification O-GlcNAcylation in pre- and post-natal development and hormone secretion. Besides science, she is passionate about reading, puzzles, art, and nature.
