Michael attended the University of Calgary between 2015-2019, where he completed his BSc. (Hons) in biochemistry with a minor in nanoscience. Michael is currently a PhD candidate (started in 2019) at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) in pharmaceutical sciences with a focus on protein arginine methylation in humans. Michael's current project is to develop novel screening technologies against protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) to probe deep into the structure and function of the poorly characterized members of the PRMT family. Michael has received federal funding for his project from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) via a Post Graduate Scholarship-Doctoral (PGS-D) as well as funding from domestic competitions within UBC. When Michael is not running protein assays, you can find him fishing for crabs.
