Current Research Focus/Projects:
My current research focuses on unveiling the molecular mechanisms/signaling pathways that underpin the development and progression of NASH related Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and how such pathways/mechanisms could be targeted for NASH related HCC therapy. Specifically, I am investigating the tumor suppressor function of the Na/K-ATPase-α1-Cav-1- Src signalosome in the liver and how a dysregulation of this pathway in pathological states, works in tandem with survivin (anti-apoptotic protein) and SMAC/Diablo (a proapoptotic protein) to create an oncogenic apoptotic switch that drives the development and progression of NASH related HCC. Furthermore, my project involves targeting this pathway as putative target for the treatment of NASH related HCC by the use of a novel peptide. Additionally, I am also involved in a research project designed to identify a liquid biopsy for early diagnosis of cancer in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. Furthermore, I am also involved in a research project to elucidate the association between Autophagy and NASH related HCC.
