Ryan is from Fort Worth, Texas and graduated in 2019 with a B.S. in Chemistry, Biological Chemistry Track from Texas A&M University in College Station. As an undergraduate, he researched the iron-sulfur cluster biosynthetic pathway with mentor David Barondeau, PhD. Following graduation, Ryan entered the Pharmacology & Toxicology graduate program at the University of Texas Medical Branch. With mentor John A. Allen, PhD, Ryan is currently exploring the signaling mechanisms of GPR52, an orphan G protein-coupled receptor, as well as pharmacologically evaluating novel GPR52 ligands as potential therapeutics for neuropsychiatric diseases and substance use disorders.
