Dr. Naveen V, PhD, is a Research Fellow at Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and Department of Biochemistry of Monash University. He received his PhD in the field of Biochemistry, Structural and Molecular Cell Biology from Academia Sinica and National Defence Medical Center in Taiwan. His Master's (M.S and M.phil) in the area of Microbiology was received from Gulbarga University and Periyar University in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) (India). He also has robust Biotech industry experience from MerckMillpore as an R&D researcher and production in-charge for Microbial Molecular research. Currently, his research is focused on understanding the structural and functional aspects of viruses (including COVID19). He also received several awards and prizes in academic and industrial research.
Research interests
My research work is principally focused on events central to human infection and immunity. Specifically, I work on structural & functional studies on viral and bacterial proteins involved in infection and challenging human immunity. This has important implications for understanding the disease progression in human and provide hints towards its regulation. My research key technical areas include X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM, Molecular dynamics, protein biochemistry and biophysical techniques (SPR, ITC, MALS, SAXS, MST, TPM). I am also expertise in DNA/RNA-Protein interactions and dissecting their functional importance with their physiological role. Specifically in the regulation of viral RNA replication and control of translation in humans.
