After my undergraduate studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences, I decided to achieve the Master in Pharmacy due to my strong interest in pharmacology. After graduation in Pharmacy and obtaining the federal diploma, I worked in different public pharmacies to apply and solidify the knowledge and skills that I have gained during my studies. Despite the good career opportunities in the public pharmacy, I decided to pursue a career in science and obtained a PhD position in the Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology research group of Prof. Stephan Krähenbühl at the University Hospital Basel. Within the scope of my PhD thesis, I investigated the toxicity of the pain reliever metamizole on neutrophil granulocytes in vitro and clinically by conducting a retrospective case-control study. After obtaining my PhD, I was granted two postdoctoral fellowships. I joined the Pharmacology research group at the Medical University of Vienna where I assessed the impact of cell membrane lipid alterations on the function and oligomerization of monoamine transporters. After my return to Switzerland, I joined the Psychopharmacology research group of Prof. Matthias Liechti at the University Hospital Basel where I currently investigate the different serotonin 5-HT2 receptor signaling pathways of psychoactive substances.
