I have been teaching the subject of Physiology at Khyber Medical College (KMC) since December 2012. I was appointed as
demonstrator/lecturer and then got promoted to Assistant Professor in January 2020 after I did my MPhil in Physiology.
Although I joined the basic sciences yet my aspiration was to excel in the clinical field. I passed all the required exams yet
due to certain personal circumstances I couldn’t pursue it. So, the initial years of my career were spent on studying for
postgraduate entry exams. But that studying helped me in consolidating my knowledge, I got a chance to compare the basic
with the clinical aspects of medicine. In September 2015 I started MPhil in Physiology in the same institute where I was
employed, from then on, I started to develop my interest in the research field. Extensive literature review to come up with
a research topic which was feasible yet within my financial limitations made me research on the autonomic nervous system.
I checked the gender differences in autonomic nervous control of the cardiovascular system. During the same I had to
develop an instrument to measure intraoral pressure, for my research as the one I needed was not available and the one
available was too expensive. Along with my MPhil research and coursework I started taking part in research I made liaison
with other faculty members and started working on a number of researches. My first article got published in 2017. In the
same year, the modular system was introduced in September 2017 in Khyber Medical College. In this system newer teaching
methodologies such as small group discussions were introduced. I took part in the development of this new curriculum. I
was incharge of developing the endocrine module for second year MBBS students along with my other team members. I
also joined the Institutional Ethical Board (IREB) as secretary, in November 2017. I started a certificate course in Health
Professions Education in January 2018 and completed it the same year. I also got my MPhil degree in September 2018. In
January 2019 I joined PhD Physiology in Khyber Medical University (KMU), I have completed my coursework there. I have
worked on introducing and analysing the effectiveness of a new teaching technique called the gamification technique in my
Institute. Which was appreciated by 80% of the students who attended it. I am currently the focal person for foundation and Renal modules of MBBS undergraduate students. I have also served as a mentor for students in our institute’s mentoring program.
I have recently received the 2022 Research Recognition Award on behalf of the American Physiological society teaching of physiology section. I am also presenting my research in Experimental Biology 2022.
