PhD Student
University of Alberta, Canada
Having completed my Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from East West University in Bangladesh, when working at Sanofi-aventis pharmaceutical company, I felt the challenge of discovering new drugs. That made me embark on an MSc Drug Discovery at UCL, School of Pharmacy, University of London followed by a 4 years research experience at University of Malaya where I worked on various type-2 diabetes and cancer related projects. My interest in broadening my horizons of molecular biology research made me join the Department of Pharmacology, University of Alberta as a PhD student in the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry to work on the pharmacological, functional and molecular characterization of the membrane transport systems under the supervision of Dr. James R Hammond. Currently, besides doing research on nucleoside transporter proteins as anti-cancer & anti-viral drug targets, I play some leadership roles in Pharmacology Graduates’ Students Association as Vice-President Social; GSA (Graduate Students Association) representative in Labour Relations Committee (LRC) and Counselor at FGSR (Faculties of Graduate Studies & Research) Council representing graduate students in The Department of Pharmacology, Communication Director of Canadian Biomaterials Society, Alberta Student Chapter (CBS-ASC) & Welcome ambassador & senior peer in International Student Services (ISS) at University of Alberta.
The unique career path with expertise in pharmaceutical industry and academic research in 4 different countries & cultures has enhanced my leadership potential, prepared me well with both soft and hard skills and provided multiple opportunities to practice and hone my written, communication and leadership skills. I am now driven to expand my pharmacy and drug discovery background to be uniquely prepared as a scientist to develop something innovative.
