Oluwaseyefunmi Iyabo Adeniran is a Doctoral student at the department of Biochemistry, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, South Africa. She previously held honour’s and Master’s Degrees in Biochemistry from the prestigious University of Ilorin, Nigeria. She has gained more than a decade in cumulative experience in the University environment as a mentor and research guide to different categories of students at both undergraduate and post graduate students.
She has authored/co-authored 5 research articles in international peer reviewed journals, and has presented papers at several local and international conferences. Her research interests are in medical plants and molecular metabolism.
The main area of her doctoral research project is the so called Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs). These products are formed at an accelerating rate in diabetes mellitus. And are implicated in the development and progression of vascular complications of this disease condition. She evaluated the effects of extracts of some selected medicinal plants with proven anti-diabetic properties. Her study has the potential to lead to the discovery of new and effective agents that not only lower blood glucose levels, but can also prevent or slow down the progression of these deliberating diabetic complications.
Ms. Adeniran’s Ph.D research has produced three published articles in peer-reviewed high impact factor journals. Presently, she has two manuscripts under review with different SCOPUS recognised international journals and three other manuscript drafts at different stages of completion. Ms. Adeniran is a reviewer for a number of international journals.
She is a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), American Chemical Society (ACS), South African Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SABMB), Nutrition Society of South Africa (NSSA), and South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
