I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago. I have a broad background in biochemistry, physiology and neurosciences, with specific training in toxicology and project management. My main research line is focused on neural control of cardiorespiratory function, specifically, on the effect of adolescent binge drinking on cardiac, ventilatory and autonomic function, aiming to understand the molecular, cellular and multi-organ mechanisms responsible on the cardiorespiratory (patho)physiology of this alcohol consumption pattern. Currently, no strong public health initiatives exist aiming to discourage adolescent alcohol consumption, despite adolescents are the heaviest drinkers in the Americas.
Also, during the last 3 years I have worked on R&D project writing and management on several scientific disciplines, including cardiology, natural products, and neurosciences. I awarded 3 projects in natural products (2 finished and one ongoing), aiming to develop antioxidant-rich extracts from agro-industrial waste, for producing functional foods and nutraceuticals with cardio/neuroprotective properties. I also have co-directed one undergraduate thesis in Pharmacy and I am currently tutoring one Biochemistry student on neurosciences and natural products
