Caroline received her master degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) where she became intrigued by the fast and impactful actions of ion channels. After an Erasmus stay at the Chalmers University of technology (Sweden) she started an internship at Johnson & Johnson where she got a first glimpse into the world of in vivo research. This internship also reinforced her passion for scientific research after which she embarked on a PhD in the Laboratory of Ion Channel Research at KU Leuven (Belgium). She focuses on understanding the maternal metabolic adaptations to pregnancy using continuous glucose monitoring in mice. Her ambition is to obtain a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms behind the plasticity of the beta cell during pregnancy.
