Dr. Buyan-Ochir Orgil has completed his Medical School at the Health Science University of Mongolia in 2009, followed by Clinical Residency in Pediatrics and Fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology. His clinical research mainly has been focused on studies of cardiac and cardiopulmonary diseases in children and young kids. During his clinical practice, he has travelled around Mongolia and participated in a screening of pediatric patients with congenital heart defects and familial cardiomyopathies. In 2020, Dr. Buyan has joined Cardiology Genetics Research Laboratory at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) as a Postdoctoral Fellow. His current mentor and sponsor Dr. Towbin is a worldwide recognized physician-scientist who has an extensive record of training clinical and postdoctoral fellows. The main research focus of his laboratory is identifying genetic causes of cardiovascular diseases and understanding how genetic abnormalities contribute to the disease. During a short time since joining the UTHSC, Dr. Buyan has successfully employed his clinical knowledges in echocardiography and electrocardiography research in vivo and gained great knowledge in functional biology, genetics and systems genetics.
