Introduction: Active learning approaches where students “learn by doing and thinking about what they are doing” have been established as being more effective than transmissionist approaches that rely on “teaching by telling.” This symposium will showcase three exemplars of innovative and contemporary active learning strategies which enhance learner engagement and experience as well as learning outcomes, including gamification and augmented reality in pharmacology education. The audience will experience these learning and teaching methods through brief interactive demonstrations.
