MAJ Anthony Basel DO spent 8 years as a Baltimore CO. Firefighter and EMT prior to attending medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He attended medical school on a Health Professions Scholarship with the U.S. Army. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta GA. He then completed a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center & R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Coming from a training program with high patient volume and high acuity, Dr. Basel's first assignment with the U.S. Army is with the U.S. Army Burn Center at the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research. He has spent the last 4 years learning the art of Burn Medicine and perfecting his skills on the Brooke Army Medical Center's ECMO Transport team. In 2018, he completed a combat deployment as the sole intensivist for the U.S. Army in Baghdad Irag. Dr. Basel enjoys a heavy clinical workload, working with Graduate Medical Education as well as exploring research opportunities in the Fields of ECMO, Trauma and Burn.
