Dr. Nancy Kwon is currently the Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, which is one of the large, academic tertiary care centers of Northwell Health. As part of her role, Dr. Kwon oversees the operations for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Kwon has many years of experience in academics and has also served as the Associate Chair of Academics and Research in Emergency Medicine. She created and was the faculty advisor for new courses and rotations, including a for credit course: Hofstra Clinical Research Course in Emergency Medicine for Hofstra Undergraduate Students, which she developed and initiated in 2016. She has collaborated and taught at Hofstra Northwell’s School of Medicine in the area of SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) for substance use disorders, for which she has performed research and was the Co-Principal Investigator of the NYSBIRT II grant which was funded by SAMHSA. Faculty development is one of her areas of interest, and she serves on the SAEM Faculty Development Committee. She also serves as a committee member on the Appointments and Promotions Committee at The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. In addition, Dr. Kwon serves on both the SAEM Research Committee and the ACEP Research Committee. In addition. she is a committee member for the SAEM Diversity and Equity Committee. Dr. Kwon was the recipient of the 2014 President’s Award for Teamwork for Northwell Health, and the 2017 Guttenberg Award for service that exemplifies commitment to emergency medicine, from Northwell’s Emergency Medicine Service Line.
Dr. Kwon received her Bachelor of Science from Brown University, and her Doctorate of Medicine from The University of Rochester. She completed her Residency in Emergency Medicine at NYU Langone School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital Center, and stayed on as faculty until 2013 where she supervised the pre-health volunteer programs for the Emergency Department, she performed health services research, and developed her focus in vulnerable patient populations and mentorship. She received a Masters in Public Administration from The NYU Wagner School of Public Service in 2003 and became a part of the Northwell Health team in 2013.
