Emergency Medicine Resident Physician
University of Chicago
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Bernice completed a dual degree course of study where she attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine and pursued a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is now an emergency medicine resident physician at University of Chicago Medical Center.
Bernice decided to take a hiatus from medical school after my 3rd year to study public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she wanted to dedicate time to reflecting on how, as a practitioner, she could serve as an agent of change both on the individual and systemic levels. At the Kennedy School, she was honored to be selected for a fellowship that allowed me to work on the gubernatorial transition team for then-incoming Governor JB Pritzker in her home state of Illinois. She also completed a capstone Policy Analysis in conjunction with the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Gun Violence Prevention.
Now while completing residency at UChicago, she is engaged in multiple community outreach efforts as part of the inaugural Community Champions program that works to break down barriers between the medical institution and surrounding community.
