Susan Gallagher holds a PhD in Policy Ethics from the University of Southern California. She initially completed training as a wound, ostomy, continence (previously referred to as an enterostomal therapy) nurse in 1980. Dr Gallagher holds a masters’ degree in Advanced Practice Nursing – Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing, is a bariatric nurse (CBN), and certified safe patient handling professional (CSPHP). She is the author or co-author of more than 200 articles or chapters pertaining to skin care, wound care, bariatrics, and patient mobility; and author of the 2013 American Nurses Association book titled, Implementation Guide to the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Interprofessional National Standards. She recently contributed two chapters to the 2021 WOCN Core Curriculum. Dr, Gallagher regularly lectures at national and international conferences where nurses and other healthcare providers attend to learn about wound and skin care, bariatrics and safe handling and mobility.
