April Lumpkins graduated with her BSN from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio as an RN in 2006 and worked for 4 years in the critical care setting. In 2010 She attended the Cleveland Clinic RB Turnbull School of WOC Nursing and became a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse. She attended Walden University and obtained her Master of Science in Nursing and specialized as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2019. During a short break from her MSN program, she obtained further specialized as a Certified Foot Care Nurse in 2018.
Over the past 11 years April held many responsibilities including management, quality improvement, program development, health informatics, documentation improvement, research, and clinical education. She has mentored many nurses in wound care and teaches the importance of evidenced-based education to empower other clinicians to better manage the many complexities of wound and ostomy care. Her philosophy is the key to successful wound healing is not only establishing the right diagnosis and treatment plan, but also to educate and engage the patient to be an active participant in their care.
