This speaker has a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Master of Science in Human Biology from the University of Copenhagen. Finding a job as an Infection Preventionist right out of school can be tough, but this challenge was even more prominent with an atypical IP background of knowledge (non-RN, non-MPH). In January 2020, she started volunteering at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, CA to gain experience in the IP field. Following the onset of the pandemic, she was offered an intern position to assist with a hand hygiene improvement project and COVID requirements. By September 2020, she was a fully-fledged Infection Preventionist, with certified status in June 2021. Her fresh perspectives, excitement and curiosity led her to look beyond the surface of hand hygiene compliance, and instead focus on the root of the problem.
