Medical Student
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, United States
Fatima Khan, originally from the suburbs of Chicago, is a 3rd year medical student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM). After graduating with honors from the University of Chicago with a degree in cancer biology, Fatima worked at a healthcare startup in San Francisco before starting medical school. After seeing the effects of health inequities in the cities she had lived in, she was inspired to also pursue her Master in Public Health, which she will receive alongside her medical degree.
While at the UMMSM, Fatima has been an active student leader, holding leadership positions in groups such as the OB/GYN interest group, Medical Students for Choice, and several advisory committees that prioritize curricular innovation and diversity and inclusion. She has a particular interest for medical education initiatives and helped create and implement an interactive pilot series for students addressing the role of racism in maternal outcomes in the US. Since its inception, the curriculum series has been adapted to remain a permanent component of clinical curriculum for all students. Fatima’s other research interests include occupational and environmental health, disparities in health literacy, pelvic floor disorders, endometriosis, and PCOS.
