Dr. Rebecca S. McConnico is Professor and Veterinarian with the School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry, Louisiana Tech University. Dr. McConnico is originally from north central Ohio, where she lived for 18 years. She obtained her BS in Animal Science from the University of Arkansas, her DVM from Louisiana State University, and her PhD and clinical residency in large animal internal medicine from North Carolina State University. She is board certified in Large Animal Internal Medicine and her clinical interests include internal medicine, infectious diseases, biosecurity, integrative medicine, and herd health and wellness in horses and large animals. She has a private consulting equine veterinary practice in North Louisiana. Dr. McConnico was the founder and director of the LSU-School of Veterinary Medicine’s Animal Disaster Experiential Training and Response Program (2004-2016) and is the Coordinator of Louisiana Tech University’s Animal Disaster Training Courses. Both college-based programs are collaborative partnerships, based on community engagement hinging on growing partnerships with Louisiana colleges and universities, non-government groups, and local, state and federal government entities. She is the current chair of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Foundation for the Horse Disaster Working Group, which focuses on education and communication in support of equine practitioners and the well-being and care of equids locally, nationally, and worldwide.
