COL SUSAN FONDY, MD, MPH
COL (Dr.) Susan Fondy graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1989 and the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1994. She graduated from residency at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in 1997 and worked as a civilian physician before being commissioned as an active duty Army Officer in 2004.
COL Fondy served as a Brigade Surgeon at the 10th Mountain Division and Battalion Surgeon in 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. She attended Command and General Staff College at Fort Lee then served at Womack Army Community Hospital in pediatrics before deploying with the 21st Combat Support Hospital as the Chief of Primary Care. COL Fondy completed a second residency in Aerospace Medicine in 2012.
After residency, COL Fondy served at Fort Rucker at Lyster Army Health Center, US Army Aeromedical Activity, and US Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory, with ventures out of the FRAL area to deploy for a fourth time in support of Task Force Observe, Detect, Identify, and Neutralize (ODIN) and to serve at 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command. COL Fondy began service as the Chief Surgeon of the Army National Guard in June 2020.
COL Fondy is board certified in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and Pediatrics. She has authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented at numerous professional conferences. Her awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Air Medal (Numeral 2), the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC). She was recognized for her outstanding service to military medicine by election as a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit. In 2021, she was recognized by the AMEDD for excellence in Aerospace Medicine with the award of the 9A designator.
