Mr. John A. Gennaro oversees delivery of health care to more than 22,000 Veterans, 845 employees, and an operating budget of $192M. Erie VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a complexity level three facility operating five community based outpatient clinics.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Gennaro served as the director of the Cincinnati VAMC from July 2015 through May 2016 where he oversaw delivery of health care to more than 43,000 Veterans annually and an operating budget of over $420 million.
Mr. Gennaro has held many positions throughout his 20 years of service in the VA. He began his career with VA in the Research Foundation at the Cincinnati VAMC. He completed his administrative residency in 2001 at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC. Mr. Gennaro has also served as the Director at VA Butler Healthcare, Deputy Director at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, and Associate Director at the Erie VAMC.
Mr. Gennaro received his bachelor's degree in natural sciences and master's degrees in business administration and health care services administration from Xavier University. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has served on the Board of Director's for the Allegheny Valley YMCA and was the 2015 Vice Chair of the Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board. Mr. Gennaro was the recipient of Modern Healthcare's Up and Comer award in 2013. He received Becker’s Hospital Review Rising Star Award in 2013, 2014 and 2017. Mr. Gennaro was awarded the 2021 Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board Excellence in Government Gold Award.
