Dr. Althea Green (Dixon) joined the Uniformed Services University (USU) November 2012 after serving thirty-five years as an active duty enlisted soldier. She serves as Director of Recruitment, and also overseas the Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program (EMDP2), a pipeline that provides enlisted service members the prerequisite coursework and other requirements to be accepted to medical school. Implemented in 2014, the EMDP2 is the first post-baccalaureate premedical program in the Department of Defense. Her military background includes duties in a variety of military and medical organizations, with leadership responsibilities at every level from tactical to strategic. During her military career, she was the first woman and first person of color to be competitively selected as the Army's Medical Command (MEDCOM) - then Health Services Command - Soldier of the Year. Her positive influence on people and organizations was later recognized with induction in both the Sergeant Morales and Sergeant Audie Murphy Clubs, which are exclusive Army leadership organizations. She culminated her Army career as the 16th Command Sergeant Major of the Army Medical Command and Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Army Surgeon General/Commander Army Medical Command. Her military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, the Expert Field Medical Badge, and several others. She is also a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit and was honored as a DIstinguished Member of the Army Medical Department Regiment. A first generation college graduate, she has earned a PhD in Educational Leadership and is a member of the Alpha SIgma Lambda National Honor Society. Dr. Green holds two faculty appointments at USU. Her research interests include Diversity in Medical Education, Leader Development, and Nontraditional Education Programs. Dr. Green was born in Trinidad and graduated from high school in Trinidad as well as St. Croix US Virgin Islands.
