LCDR Charles D. Meyer, MD is a Chief Resident in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
He attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He was selected as the Surface Nuclear Warfare Officer and was first stationed aboard the USS JAMES E. WILLIAMS (DDG 95), where he served as First Lieutenant and Assistant Operations Officer. He then attended the Naval Nuclear Power Training Program where he graduated at the top of his class and was awarded the Commanding Officer’s Personal Excellence Award. He was then stationed aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 79) and served as the Machinery Division Officer and the Assistant Main Propulsion Assistant.
He then transferred to the Navy Medical Corps and attended the Uniformed Services University. He was selected as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with Honors, before being accepted to the Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Following his internship, he served as the Senior Medical Officer aboard the USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17), before returning to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth to complete his residency.
He has multiple professional and research awards and commendations, most recently including first place in the 2021 Annual Navy-Wide Academic Research Competition, as well as the 2021 Officer of the Year for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. After graduation he will be performing a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery & Microvascular Reconstruction through Harvard Medical School at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Institute.
