Dr. Kara Schmidt, MD is a High Reliability Organization (HRO) Physician Lead and practicing Hospitalist for Veterans Affairs- Northern California HealthCare System. She attending medical school at Ross University School of Medicine, then completed three years of Internal Medicine residency training at UCSF-Fresno in Fresno CA. After residency she was selected for an additional training year as a Chief Resident for Quality and Safety at the UC Davis - Sacramento VA Medical Center. Dr. Schmidt currently works as an attending hospitalist at the Sacramento VA Medical Center and is a volunteer status UC Davis Assistant Clinical Professor. In this role she actively supervises UC Davis resident teams during their rotations the Sacramento VA hospital. In addition to clinical duties, Dr Schmidt also works as a physician lead with the High Reliability Organization team for VA Northern California HealthCare System. Dr. Schmidt has a passion for medical education and making HRO and patient safety accessible and relevant for medical trainees. She hopes to continue working in a combination clinical-HRO role at the VA for the foreseeable future.
