COL James (Jamie) Mancuso is an active duty U.S. Army physician who has served the military for 32 years. He currently serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine & Biostatistics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU). Originally from Boston's North Shore, COL Mancuso first enlisted in the infantry, serving for 2 years in Germany, during which time he deployed to Operation Desert Storm. He then completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts at Boston and medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU). While completing his residency in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), he also completed his Master of Public Health (MPH) at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and Hygiene. After service in several public health assignments, he returned to USU to complete a Doctorate in Public Health, leading a clinical trial of tuberculosis diagnostics at Fort Jackson. COL Mancuso has had a wide breadth of assignments in public health, including as the Chief of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Fort Stewart, Director of the Department of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the US Army Medical Research Unit in Kenya, and the Chief of Epidemiology & Analysis section of the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch. From 2017 to 2021, he served as Chief Consultant to the Army Surgeon General for Preventive Medicine. He has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, is board certified in both Preventive Medicine and Occupational Medicine, and holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Tropical Medicine and Travel Health by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
