LCDR Jason Truax is a Commissioned Officer in the United States Public Health Service, currently serving as the Safety Officer at Cass Lake Indian Health Service (IHS) in northern Minnesota. In addition to his position, he serves as the facilities Emergency Manager where he plans, facilitates, conducts disaster and civil disturbance preparedness drills with hospital staff, tribal, city, and counties partners.
LCDR Jason Truax has led and planned several missions. In January 2020 his team collected intelligence which contributed to strategic level decision-making and policy development to the COVID-19 response. He led the development of a COVID-19 off site drive thru collection which led to 59% of tests collected off site, reduced burden on hospital & clinic services who were operating at 54% staffing level. In December of 2020 he was appointed as a multidisciplinary vaccine Strike Team Lead, by IHS Area Director. The team administered the COVID vaccine to 3 tribal reservations. After the initial roll out, LCDR Truax became the chief of planning and co-led operations for 12 mass vaccination events in Northern Minnesota. The model was recognized as the fastest and most efficient mass vaccine event by the Minnesota Department of Health. The results of this vaccine plan resulted in 85% of the user population becoming vaccinated. LCDR Truax team’s regional success led to his appointment as the chief of planning and operations for two multi-jurisdictional mass COVID-19 events in Troy, Michigan. LCDR successfully led operations and collaborations between 81 federal, state, and tribal partners.
LCDR Truax holds a B.S. in Clinic Laboratory Science with minors in Chemistry and Microbiology. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family, downhill Skiing, ice fishing and scuba diving
