CAPT Christopher C. Lucas graduated with a bachelor of arts from Harvard University in 1987 and with a doctor of medicine from the University of Florida in 1995. After commissioning as a lieutenant in the Medical Corps, he completed internship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He was designated a Naval Flight Surgeon and served with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163 at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, CA, and aboard the USS ESSEX (LHD 2) with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit during Operation Southern Watch in 1998. He completed a master of science in neuroscience from the University of Florida in 1999 and a master in public health from Harvard University in 2000. He finished residency in aerospace medicine in 2002 at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute, and remained as Department Head of Physical Examinations and Director of Academics. In 2006 he completed a residency in family medicine at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL, then served as the Senior Medical Officer aboard the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67). From 2007 until 2009 he served aboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as the Senior Medical Officer, where he led the reconstruction of the Medical Department during the ship’s Refueling and Complex Overhaul. Until 2012, CAPT Lucas was stationed at Naval Health Clinic, Quantico, VA, as Director of Public Health. He served as the Naval Safety Center command surgeon and aeromedical analyst until 2014 then was the Naval Air Force Atlantic Surgeon until 2017. He subsequently was the CTF-80 Surgeon and Chief Medical Information Officer at U.S. Fleet Forces Command until 2019, during which he oversaw hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Currently he is the Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Deputy Chief Medical Plans (M5) at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
