MAJ Elizabeth Poindexter, US Army Family Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Nursing Practice, is a native of Shippensburg, PA. She graduated high school from Shippensburg Area Senior High School in 2003 and then attended DeSales University in Center Valley, PA, majoring in Nursing. She graduated in 2007 with her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, she commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. MAJ Poindexter was stationed as a 66H (Medical Surgical Nurse) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the 212th Combat Support Hospital and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
She then attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, where she earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Family Nurse Practitioner degree in 2016. While attending USUHS, MAJ Poindexter was also a Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, MAJ Poindexter went on to serve three years as a Primary Care Manager at Winder Clinic on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. In 2019, she began her most recent tour of duty with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. With this Department, her roles have included PCM, Officer in Charge of McWethy Troop Medical Clinic, and Deputy Chief of the Department.
Her military awards include: Joint Service Commendation Medal (1), Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Achievement Medal (1). Her other awards include: Ready, Reliable Care Award for Process Improvement (1), USUHS Board of Regents Award (1), and DeSales University President's Medal (1).
MAJ Poindexter is married to U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Poindexter, stationed at Brooke Army Medical Center where he is serving as an Officer in Charge of the Dental and Oral Surgery Clinic. They have two children, Lucas (age 5) and Penelope (age 3).
