Dr. Smith is a graduate of the 2013 class of Presidential Management Fellows. Dr. Smith accepted a PMF appointment effective 07/14/2013 as a Management Analyst with the Veterans Health Administration- Post Deployment Health Services (PDHS). She currently serves as a Health Systems Specialist in the Pre-9/11 Era Environmental Health Program, PDHS. In this role, Dr. Smith applies the 3 core functions and 10 essential public health services to assess the impact of deployment and military environmental exposures on Veterans.
Prior to her PMF appointment, Dr. Smith was employed as a Communicable Disease Specialist (CDS)-Tuberculosis (TB) Case Manager in the state of Georgia. As a CDS, Dr. Smith was responsible for the coordination of care in active and suspected pulmonary and extra-pulmonary TB patients. Dr. Smith’s occupational background is extensive in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Internal Medicine, Correctional Medicine, and Public Health.
Dr. Smith received her Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) November 2018, Master of Public Health (MPH) degree February 2013, and Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science in October 2010. She is also a Licensed Practical Nurse. Additionally, Dr. Smith is Certified in Public Health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners. Dr. Smith is an inducted member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
