Phil Saken once auditioned for "American Idol" ... and got beaten out by a mime.
Good thing he chose communications as his career path. His professional life has centered on telling stories with impact. A BSJ/MSJ graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Phil began his career as an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist, working as an anchor, reporter and producer over his 12-year tenure in news. After leaving TV news, Phil served as a Director of Communications at the Ohio House of Representatives, communications and special projects director in Outreach & Engagement at The Ohio State University and regional communications/brand reputation leader under the Golden Arches at McDonald's. He currently serves as Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at The Ohio State University College of Nursing.
Phil is grateful for the opportunities he's had to work with exceptional teams to share stories and successes in strategic, media, business, academic, internal, external, speechwriting, government/public policy, crisis and rapid-response communications. He also cherishes mentorship and coaching opportunities that have allowed him to learn from masters of their crafts in several different industries.
Phil's seen a lot of different titles printed on his business cards, but his favorite all-time title, by far, is "daddy." He lives in Columbus, Ohio with his wife and their three sons.
