Colonel (Ret) Tamara Averett-Brauer, MN, RN, is a DAF civilian Senior Health Scientist and nurse researcher conducting En Route and Prolonged Care research in the Airman Biosciences Division at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s 711th Human Performance Wing.
She is a thought leader providing critical insights for strategic plans to meet US Air Force and US Space Force medical capability, care and support requirements. She provides internationally recognized aeromedical expertise and consultation to Air Force Medical Service, Department of the Air Force, Department of Defense and NATO agencies. Ms. Averett-Brauer supports science and technology research and development to meet warfighter needs. She is pursuing a PhD in nursing science exploring Expertise in USAF Flight Nurses.
Col (Ret) Averett-Brauer completed a distinguished Air Force career as senior nursing executive leader with extensive aeromedical evacuation, hospital and regional health system headquarters expertise. Her operational and deployed experiences include two tours in Afghanistan supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (Chief Nurse, Craig Joint Theater Hospital/JTF-MED and 451st Expeditionary AE Squadron Commander). Additionally she was the 775th Expeditionary AE Squadron Director of Operations and stood up the CONUS redistribution of patients from Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. She served as the Military Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General for Aeromedical Evacuation and Flight Nursing 2010-2015. Colonel Averett-Brauer is a Chief Flight Nurse with over 1200 flight hours, including 96 combat flight hours.
