Karen Lee is currently the Director of the Research Group with the Ontario Medical Association. This unit is part of the Economics, Policy & Research Department and is responsible for providing research support to the organization in areas such as OMA/government relations, health sector economic analysis, health policy, insurance and board/committee activities.
Karen was born in Hong Kong, and has a BA in history from the University of Hong Kong. After moving to Canada, she attended the University of Toronto, earning a Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Karen joined the OMA in 1995, with a three month contract position as an Information Officer, primarily doing indexing. She has been the manager of the Research Group since 2012. Over time, Karen’s work evolved as she assumed new responsibilities, and the research landscape evolved. She has witnessed how emerging technologies have transformed the role of in-house research services in a special library setting, both at the OMA and elsewhere.
Her recent focus has been on how to leverage new technologies to provide faster and more effective services, and on making consequential adjustments to workflows and building on a staff approach that emphasizes teamwork and flexibility. Her new approach sees to integrate research, environmental scanning and research tool building to further enhance research capacity.
