Sherri M. Donat, MD, FACS: Dr. Donat completed her Medical degree and residency training at the University of Oklahoma followed by a urologic oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Following fellowship, she was on staff at at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center before returning to Memorial Sloan Kettering in 1996 where she remains today as an Attending Surgeon in Urology and Professor of Urology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York.
Her research/clinical activities focus on the improvement of perioperative care/outcomes, defining the role of surgery in locally advanced and/or metastatic bladder cancer, determining how to best integrate surgery with chemotherapy, and improving perioperative management to decrease surgical morbidity/mortality for all major GU procedures. She established perioperative care pathways (ERAS) at MSKCC in 1996, along with a prospective adverse event database utilized for both patient care and clinical research and has focused on raising awareness of the need/benefits of accurate complication reporting and to establish an international standard for reporting surgical morbidity in urologic oncology.
Dr. Donat has served as a member of the AUA Quality Assurance/Patient Safety Committee, Chair of the guideline committee for follow-up of Renal Neoplasm’s, member of the AUA data committee, the NCI/NIH Progress Review Group for Bladder and Renal Cancer, the Society of International Urology Guidelines Panel Bladder Preservation Committee, and on faculty for the Austrian American Foundation/ESU Master class. She serves as a reviewer for multiple major urologic journals, an external advisor to the the EUA for establishing surgical reporting guidelines, and as advisor to the International Minimally Invasive Society to create an international database for open/robotic cystectomy. She has written 97 peer review publications, multiple chapters, and served as a course director/session moderator at the AUA, with multiple presentations internationally.
