Dr José URBANO is a Vascular & Interventional Radiology working at Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in Madrid.
He obtained his medical degree from the university of Valladolid with outstanding marks in 1989. He undertook the training program in Radiology in the Gregorio Marañón University Hospital in Madrid until 1995. Since 1996, he has been dedicated full time to vascular and interventional radiology. He obtained the PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2011 and the national acreditation for university profesor, ANECA, in 2017.
He worked in several university hospitals and currently is a consultant interventionalist at Ramon y Cajal tertiary academic hospital where he conducts teaching, research and clinical assistance. His clinical interests are vascular, oncology and embolisation. Focused on embolization, the liquid embolics,the vascular plugs and the bleeding patient are his main topics. Dr Urbano has organized and directed numerous educational courses with embolics in vivo and in animal model. He has published 80 peer-reviewed papers, 18 book chapters and is the autor of 6 books. He was the President of the Spanish Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (SERVEI) from 2017 to 2019.
He has attended every GEST conference and he is convinced of the need for a regulated and structured training on embolization.
