Thomas E. MacGillivray, M.D. is the Jimmy F. Howell, M.D. Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery and Chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Transplant Surgery at Houston Methodist. A graduate of Tufts Medical School, Dr. MacGillivray completed his general surgery residency and cardiothoracic surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the Chief Resident in Cardiovascular Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. MacGillivray specializes in the surgical treatment of adults with congenital heart disease, acquired heart disease, thoracic aortic surgery and thoracic tranplantation . He is also the associate medical director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Houston Methodist. Dr. MacGillivray holds many national leadership roles in cardiothoracic surgery. He is the Second Vice President and Treasurer of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, he is on the Board of Directors of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation and he is on the editorial board of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
