Dr. Gianluca Torregrossa, graduated from the University of Padua Italy cum laude and distinguished medal honor. In December 2011 Gianluca Torregrossa was part of the surgical team who implanted the first total artificial Heart in Italy and he was the medical point of reference for the longest survivor patient in the world supported with a total artificial heart.
After been graduated as cardiac surgeon, Dr. Torregrossa, spent 9 months in Sudan, providing cardiac surgery to a large Sub-Saharan population of children/young adults focusing on congenital heart disease and surgery for rheumatic valves.
From 2013 to 2016 dr. Torregrossa, completed an advance fellowship in valve repair and reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City under the direction of Dr. David Adams, focusing on mitral valve repair, Ross procedure and aortic root surgery.
In 2016 Dr. Torregrossa was appointed Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai Hospital. By working in close collaboration with Dr. John Puskas he acquired skills in complex multi arterial off pump coronary artery bypass surgery including Robotic MIDCABG. In 2018 Dr Torregrossa was appointed Associate Director of Robotic Heart Surgery at Mount Sinai Saint Luke.
In September 2019 Dr Torregrossa joined the Division of Cardiac Surgery at University of Chicago. Under the mentorship of Dr. Husam Balkhy, Dr Torregrossa obtained advanced trained in robotic cardiac surgery. He participated in more than 350 robotic cardiac surgical procedures while maintaining an active academic and scientific profile with publications mostly focused on robotic CABG.
In July 2021 Dr Torregrossa has been recruited by Main Line Health as director of the robotic coronary program, one of the world leading program in robotic coronary surgery.
Dr Torregrossa is author of more than 80 publications in peer reviewed journal, he speaks 3 languages, crossed the Sahara twice on his motorbike and enjoys play guitar.
