James C. Reynolds, MD, FACG, is Professor of Clinical Medicine, and Director of the Neurogastroenterology and Motility Program at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Reynolds, a native of Florida, graduated with honors from Florida State University and the University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Cornell University-The New York Hospital, and a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania and rose to become Program Director and Associate Chief. In 1990 he became Associate Professor of Medicine and Cell Biology and Chief of the Division Gastroenterology at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1996 he became Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Drexel University. From 2004 to 2016 he was the June F. Klinghoffer Distinguished Professor and Chairman of Medicine. In 2016 he returned to the University of Pennsylvania to become Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director, Neurogastroenterology and Motility Program, and was Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology there from January 2019 to December 2020. He is on the editorial board of Digestive Diseases and Sciences, and is a reviewer for several journals. He has published over 100 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, received numerous honors through the years including Phi Beta Kappa, AOA, “Physician of the Year” in 1995 by the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the CCFA, named most outstanding gastroenterologist in Pittsburgh twice by Pittsburgh Magazine. Dr. Reynolds was also named among Philadelphia’s “Top Docs” for 12 years by Philadelphia Magazine. He has also received teaching awards in both basic sciences and clinical sciences from Penn Medicine and at Drexel University. Dr. Reynolds served as ACG Governor of eastern Pennsylvania for six years, and has served on several committees for both the ACG and the AGA.
