Katie M Hess, MPH (Native Hawaiian) is a Senior Research Coordinator at Seven Directions, a Center for Indigenous Public Health, at the University of Washington. She spent the previous nine years at an urban Indigenous organization overseeing family support programs. In her work there she relied on a combination of quantitative and qualitative data, utilizing a CBPR approach to ensure community and stakeholder input was integrated into program implementation, improvement, and evaluation efforts. At Seven Directions, Ms. Hess focuses on strengths-based collaborative community work while building towards systemic and long-term change in health outcomes for Indigenous people. She utilizes her experience in service provision to support tribal public health programs as well as conduct translational research and develop unique resources. Ms. Hess has a BA in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and received her Master in Public Health from the University of Washington, Community-Oriented Public Health Program.
