Director, National Stigma Initiative
Shatterproof
New Hill, North Carolina, United States
My current title is Director of the National Stigma Initiative at Shatterproof, which is a nonprofit working to end the addiction crisis in the United States. In this position I lead our state-based campaign efforts, which scales evidence-based, stigma reduction tactics (primarily consisting of community engagement) to positively shift attitudes, perceptions, and ultimately, behavior towards individuals who suffer from substance use disorder.
I graduated from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Global Health, with a concentration in emerging infectious diseases. With the mindset that “global is local” I was actively involved in the Durham, North Carolina community working with local nonprofit organizations administering rapid HIV-testing, leading sex education programming for at-risk youth, and promoting harm reduction efforts in the state, including distribution of naloxone.
After undergraduate studies I started my career at the END Fund, a $40 million per year private philanthropic initiative working to end neglected tropical diseases. During my tenure at the END Fund, I had the opportunity to wear many hats, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Strategy and Operations. I was able to hone my strengths in strategic project management—identifying opportunities, anticipating needs, streamlining processes—as well as develop human capital expertise, including change management techniques and employee engagement (survey techniques and engagement drivers) to increase productivity.
While at the END Fund I also obtained a certificate in nonprofit management from Duke University and I am currently enrolled in Johns Hopkins Carey Business School’s flexible MBA program, specializing in public and private sector leadership and entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology.
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
