LCDR Sebastian Lara, MD, MA is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and the Clerkship Director for Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. From Memphis, Tennessee, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame and then received his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Arts degree in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the National Capital Consortium at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and then served an additional year there as Chief Resident. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. During his three year tour as a general pediatrician at Naval Hospital Guam, he served as Chair of the Healthcare Ethics Committee, Program Director of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support training, and also the Program Manager for the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services department. He deployed as the sole pediatrician aboard the USNS Brunswick component of the Pacific Partnership 2018 humanitarian mission, strengthening alliances with seven countries in the Indo-Pacific region. His interests include global health, medical education, medical Spanish, and medical humanities.
