Dr. Levin is an Associate Professor and Associate Director for Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He also serves as a Co-Director for the Center for Data Science in Emergency Medicine and the Systems Director for the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare housed in the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering.
Dr. Levin’s research focuses on the development and deployment of data science and systems engineering tools to improve healthcare delivery. This includes an emphasis on innovations in health informatics toward supporting data-driven medical decision-making and healthcare operations.
Dr. Levin has led (principal investigator) and been actively involved in many research efforts for the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National Academy of Medicine (NAM), National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Department of Homeland Security, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and several industry partners. Results of this work are found in numerous publications applying data-science and systems engineering methods to medicine.
